Boursin Garlic and Herbs is in my opinion a ‘staple cheese’; I have consistently eaten it since I was a child and will continue to do so.

I find that the flavour focuses more on garlic and less on chives than other competing cheeses, which makes the taste somewhat lighter and less earthy. However, to be clear, this cheese tastes extremely strongly of garlic.

The texture is firmer than the average spreadable cheese, but it still spreads fairly easily on a cracker or bread, although you may end up with a few cracked biscuits.

The ideal accompaniments for Boursin Garlic & Herb are a plain French stick, or a Carr’s Cheese Melt. Despite advice on Boursin’s official website, I would avoid drinking wine while consuming the cheese. A grape or apple afterwards however is excellent for cleansing the palette.

Boursin also works well on a jacket potato and I imagine it would work well on a dish with any form of hot potato as the flavour is somewhat close to that of garlic bread. In fact, Boursin itself works well in savoury baking.

If you are looking to buy a spreadable cheese from a supermarket, in my opinion you can do no better than this. 9/10
